BLACKJACK



This fabulous Ladies Doubles League is a competitive yet fun competition where teams quickly learn the value of every point.



Developed by Noel Callaghan, BlackJack has become an extremely popular doubles league. Played during the indoor months at Evergreen Tennis Club, this widely celebrated league has become a big hit not only for the fabulous competition but also for the terrific prizes up for grabs for the winners. 

 

Players on the day will play three sets of first to 21 points, hence the name BlackJack. Teams alternate the serve with players serving four points each and changing ends after every eight points. At 20 all, you must win by two points. Therefore the serve is now alternated every two points.

Each team has an hour and a half to complete their three sets, whereby our scoring system for the league equates to each set being worth one point and the win on the day will earn you an additional two points.

​

BlackJack is played every Thursday and Friday during the colder weather where we all have the luxury of playing on the heated indoor courts. 

​

Currently there are two Divisions, Division One is for a combined doubles pairing of 7.0 and higher and Division Two is for a combined doubles pairing of 6.5 and lower.

​

The concept for the BlackJack format is designed to educate players on the true value of a point. It reminds each competitor that at the end of the day it can come down to the fact that a match can be won or lost on a particular point. It teaches each player that every point is crucial. So in BlackJack, the collection of points constitutes a win, not games, sets or matches.
